A Modern Agricultural Reimagining: From Barn to Bespoke Family Home

A recent project, ‘The Hide’, is representative of the thoughtful, sustainable reimagining of a striking agricultural building, transformed into a modern family home while retaining its distinctive rural identity.

The design preserves the bold silhouette of the original barn—defined by two principal ‘wing’ extensions and a central range—by enveloping its existing portal frame structures in an energy-efficient new skin. These concrete frames, once structural, are now celebrated as part of the home’s industrial interior aesthetic, paying homage to the building’s agricultural roots.

Externally, a minimal palette of vertical corrugated metal sheeting and horizontal timber cladding nods to contemporary agricultural architecture, blending modernity with authenticity.

Shelter from the site’s exposed conditions has been built into the design, with covered terraces providing protection without relying on add-ons or afterthoughts.
This project is a clear example of how contemporary living and agricultural heritage can be brought together with respect, efficiency, and style.
