LEMON STREET MARKET
THE PROJECT
The market originally operated under a corrugated tin roof. When bought by the Hendra Family it was re-developed, with CAD operating as commercial architects. The design by Ross Edwards kept the commercial/industrial feel of the original and produced a thoroughfare market with mezzanine gallery and restaurant.
The principal elevations are a mixture of stone walls at ground floor with weather-boarded upper floors, under a gabled roof with high glazing to accentuate the shape of the gable and to flood the interior with light. A full length lantern light completes the natural lighting of the interior.
This innovative approach to commercial architecture was joint winner of the Cornish Buildings Group award for best commercial building.
